Practical test for Matura students

Every year, the guilds of construction and timber construction as well as proHolz Oberösterreich announce a planning and design competition for the graduates of the HTL1 Bau und Design Linz – the so-called OÖ Bautechnikpreis. The budding technicians apply their knowledge in teamwork: three to four students each develop a project together.

In this year’s graduating classes, 123 students submitted a total of 34 entries for the Construction Technology Prize. An external jury selects the winners. A total of € 23,000 in prize money was awarded. The Chamber of Civil Engineers, Architects and Engineers for Upper Austria and Salzburg, the Fire Prevention Agency for Upper Austria and the engineering firm KMP awarded special prizes.

Our special prize “Fire Protection” was handed over by Mr. Andreas Milkovics, head of the expert service, to the winners Manuel Ritt, Oliver Resch, Jakob Schmidhuber, Jonas Sollmann.

This team chose from the six tasks available the topic of construction industry with the project reuse of the former warehouse area, Fischlham. Despite the spatial extent of this project, the boys only worked out an escape staircase from the upper floors. This is possible for two reasons: firstly, the connecting routes to the stairwell are designed as open arcades with corresponding partition walls. Secondly, the winning team planned all doors and windows as fire barriers.

Congratulations to all award winners!
