New findings: Safer PV systems on foil roofs
Our fire tests offer exciting insights into the safe installation of PV systems on foil roofs.
The OIB Guidelines 2023 require certain fire protection measures for PV systems on foil roofs for defined building classes and utilisation types. One common method of ensuring safety is to apply a layer of gravel. However, this can cause problems due to the additional weight.
Aim of the tests
We carried out tests to find alternatives to the gravel layer in the area of roof openings. These alternatives should also contain the spread of fire and thus enable the safe installation of PV systems.
Results and availability
The results of these tests formed the basis for the revision of our leaflet on PV systems, which has been available for download on our website in the ‘Useful documents’ section for several weeks now. The detailed research report provides interested parties with more detailed insights into the fire behaviour of PV modules on foil roofs. You can find it on our website in the research reports section.
